HUMANA Purchases Concentra

Thinking about an on-site program?  Just ask your current TPA, broker or insurance company to add this as a component to your coverage!

HUMANA is the latest insurance giant to get into the provider space with a direct purchase of an on-site provider.  This time it is CONCENTRA going from privately held to publicly traded (through HUMANA, at least) and this brings us to ask what on-site really means.  If a large multi-lateral corporation is doing the on-site program, is it really employer sponsored and managed?  As consultants, we start any sentence for which we don’t have an answer with the three-word caveat, “It all depends . . . ”  This allows us to answer in a vague and nonspecific way and still be correct.

It all depends upon the manner that is used to engage the on-site program and the final scope of work that is defined by the employer.  When asked about the future of on-site programming, we always suggest that consolidation is coming.  Actually, this post continues to show it is here!  We hope that the addition of capital (Humana’s) to a well thought of provider (Concentra) will add a lot to the industry and help everyone reach new levels of service and performance.   This will depend upon the employers and on some of the other, independent providers (all listed on this site) who continue to set new standards for innovative and effective programming.

See the press release on Humana/Concentra to learn more about their reasons behind the link-up.
