Top Five Conditions by Dollars Spent for Retirees

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (a division of the Department of Health and Human Services) recently reported on the 5 most expensive medical conditions treated in the elderly.   The report indicates that nearly 1/3rd of total health care dollars spent were on the elderly, and a majority of those were accounted for in 5 distinct disease categories:   Heart conditions, cancer, osteoarthritis and non-traumatic joint disorders, hypertension, and trauma related disorders.

If you are including your retirees in your on-site clinic benefits, you probably already knew where the focus of care had to be based on claims analyses.   If you weren’t sure, this information may be helpful in designing your on-site services for this population and your benefit package.
