City of Lexington Opens On-Site Clinic

Marathon Health was awarded the contract for this clinic last year, but the clinic itself just recently opened.  Interestingly, the medical director for the new facility is Dr. David French (formerly of Toyota).  Recruitment of primary care providers is tough these days, but getting one with on-site experience is unusual.  There just aren’t that many of them out there.

Also interesting are many of the comments posted by readers of the article at Kentucky.com – the skeptics and cynics really make their voices heard.  What is unfortunate is that so little “education”  has been provided to the general public about all the positives associated with these clinics – improved health and well-being, cost savings which are passed along to employees through keeping premium sharing as low as it can possibly get, improved quality of care, incentives and encouragement in developing and maintaining healthy life-styles, no wait at the physician’s office (for me, that would be enough of an incentive to use 0ne – who hasn’t waited for an hour at a physician’s office for apparently no reason?).

Taxpayers could be better informed about how this works.   Any savings the governmental unit achieves are, in theory, savings to the taxpayers ultimately – at the very least it frees up dollars for other public services.

I am marketing director for a very nice downtownurgentcare center at http://www.downtownurgentcare.com. This is a beautiful facility surrounded by huge office buildings. I think this is a sleeping giant in terms of the great health & wellness services we can provide to all the tenants in these buildings. How do you think we can most effectively promote this, and do you think there are any grants out there to tap into for marketing funds and expansion.

Bill – Thanks for your response and your interest. We know of several urgent care operations where the services to day time populations in large buildings and office complexes are an important part of the health care profile. Many of these urban centers do not have ready access for the employees to their regular doctors in the suburbs, where most of them reside. However, in some cases (Manhattan, for example), the doctor at the urgent care facility becomes the primary care provider by default. I do not know of any grants that are available for a private provider but there are wellness grants available for employers and they might include a provider in order to qualify. Please keep us informed of your progress.
