The Federal Government “Supports” Employer Efforts at Improving Employee Health

Why?  Well, of course – because studies have shown that anything employers can do to improve the health of their employees translates into lower Medicare costs in the future.  The American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine actually prepared a brief for the congressional “Wellness Caucus” encouraging it to “support new policies aimed at delivering healthier seniors into Medicare and other government entitlement programs by strengthening health and wellness programs in the workplace.”    They call it a “. . . win:win: Employers would benefit from lowered medical and productivity costs, while the government’s long-term health costs would be reduced.”

So, we tip our hats to those of you involved in on-site clinic services provision – as employers you’re doing us all a favor (as taxpayers, employees, citizens) in so many ways – including the one described here – reducing long term governmental costs for healthcare provided through the Medicare program.   In all seriousness, employers with on-site clinics are making a huge contribution to population health management that has received far less notice than deserved to this point in time.
