Impact of Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008 on Wellness Programs
Those of you with on-site services and extensive wellness offerings may have hit a bump in the road because of this legislation which makes it illegal to discriminate against employees with regards to either health coverage or employment on the basis of genetic information – that same information that you are desperately trying to get in the form of questionnaires used extensively with wellness programs in particular. Sooo. . . if you have tied an incentive (reduction in premium, one-time payment, etc.) to your wellness or other health-related activities, you may want to look at how much and what type of information you are requesting as a part of the intake process.
