Spartanburg On-site Clinic a Success in Just 1 Year

An on-site clinic opened for the employees of Spartanburg County in South Carolina is seemingly a big success in just one year of operation.   This clinic is not a “medical home” but provides primary medical care for employees and their dependents through the use of nurses.  In the first year of operation there have been savings of about $220,000 in claims and stories abound from patients who feel the clinic has had a dramatic impact on their own health.  Tony Bell, one of the people responsible for starting the clinic, had nothing but praise for its operations thus far.   The county contracts with BC/BS for its primary health care insurance, and a spokewoman for the insurance company indicated that she is recommending that most of the large employers insuring with BC/BS in South Carolina start their own on-site clinics because of the benefits.   Mr. Bell, patient at the clinic himself, said “I think more and more employers are going to have to take the lead to do something like this.”
