Toyota Distributors Add On-site Services

In Jacksonville, Florida, perhaps JM Family Enterprises has taken a page out of the Toyota book – they set up Health & Wellness Centers at their three, distributor, vehicle-processing plants with one physician who spends time at all three locations, in addition to full-time nursing personnel at each site. 

David Bush, the corporation’s director of benefits strategy said, “This is part of our effort to responsibly manage the rising cost of health care.  The biggest reward to the company is the savings in lost productivity because we’re helping to keep the associates healthier by earlier intervention.” 

Towers-Watson (see our resources link) has been helping JM Family with the design of the benefits and has predicted that about one-third of employers who have more than 1,000 employees will provide on-site services by 2011.
