Toyota Opens Fourth On-site Clinic in Buffalo
After opening its first on-site clinic in San Antonio a few years ago, Toyota has obviously found the concept to be one of value as they recently announced the opening of their fifth on-site clinic for employees at their Buffalo plant. All four clinics are managed by Take Care Health Systems, and they all include a pharmacy where generic prescriptions are filled at no cost. This latest clinic is smaller than some of their other facilities (there are only about 1,000 employees at the plant, plus dependents), and located just outside the gates of the factory itself to allow easier access for employees and their families. A nurse practitioner is there full-time, and a physician is on-site 4 hours/week.
It is interesting to note that a plant spokesperson indicated that one of the reasons for opening the clinic was to be more cost-effective internally. The Buffalo plant has the highest health care costs of any of the American-based Toyota facilities. So, add this to the list of reasons to have an on-site clinic.
