Colleges Increase On-site Pool
CHS will be moving decisively into the college and university business with the addition of Purdue Univesity as a new three year service agreement, According to documents that we were able source.
Don’t get this confused with the ‘student clinic’. This is all about employees and their benefits. This is a big university with the same problems and challenges that any big employer has but with a few twists. The university environment has a pretty demanding constituency in its faculty and the local health care system is generally very connected to a university establishement. The fact that CHS has been chosen is a credit to both CHS and Purdue.
We have also reported on TakeCare and its programming at Notre Dame and our firm (The LaPenna Group) has completed two business case analyses at other major universities. From what we have seen, this is going to be an area of significant opportunity for cost savings. Why?
The work force is one that generally has a significatant health benefit. The work force is contained in a specific geographic area. The budget process for most universities is constrained by external forces and there is a budget cycle that demands an annual response to any cost increases. This brings the CFO directly into the picture as health care costs continue to increase.
On-site clinics will be in an environment now with faculty and university staff and they will become more prevalent in centers where learning and infomraiton exchange is valued. We would expect that CHS and TakeCare will be leading the way to harness these new relationships and that we will probably see some new data as the educational field embraces on-site programming as a new option for health care delivery.
