Commonwealth Fund Analysis
The Commonwealth Fund has published “standards” for the evaluation of the effectiveness of patient-centered medical homes. The Fund pulled together 75 experts in the field to define “a standard set of core measures” which could be used for this purpose. See the reference article at our link as well as further links to the entire Data Brief and a webinar on the subject. It is interesting to note that The Commonwealth Fund created the “Patient-Centered Medical Home Evaluators’ Collaborative” more than two years ago, and the researchers then broke up into five groups with separate goals and tasks. All their work was to be related to developing standardized evaluation measures for PCMH – cost and use; quality; patient experience; provider and staff experience; and implementation.
Reports from the work groups have been published over time (the Data Brief will point you to them specifically and individually). The measures were to be created to allow comparison of data/results from various provider sites. You may find it a wise use of your time (if you haven’t been reading about this group’s work already) to read the Data Brief.
