Towers Watson Onsite Clinic 2012 Survey
Towers Watson recently released the results of their 2012 survey of employers who already have, or are planning to add, an onsite clinic for employees. Perhaps somewhat of a surprise, the number one reason the respondents gave for having an onsite clinic is to “Enhance worker productivity.” Second place was to “Reduce medical costs.” And, 46% of those planning to establish an onsite clinic indicated that they are doing so to “Improve access to care.”
Of those with a clinic now, 63% offer primary care and another 8% plan to add the offering in the next year; 24% have a full onsite pharmacy, 24% have a concierge pharmacy, and 43% have a prepackaged pharmacy onsite. Another interesting data point was the 8% who have telemedicine at their clinics with another 28% planning to add this service in the next twelve months (points to the access issue).
For you vendors, the survey showed that 67.2% of employers hire an outside firm to manage their clinic, and of those planning to open a facility 70.4% will use a vendor. Interesting data in the survey summary, well worth the quick read of this 4-page report. There were 74 companies employing 1.7 million people who participated.
