Consumer Reports Bluebook on Healthcare Pricing
You and your employees may benefit from accessing this information. Consumer Reports, in association with many other reputable sources, has compiled a “bluebook” for healthcare pricing. The data they have compiled can be searched by zip code and type of service to find the average fee accepted by insurance companies. If you are negotiating a contract with a specific provider or developing a narrow network, this information can certainly be helpful (in addition, of course, to looking at your own data from claims files). However, it may be most useful to employees who are now participating in greater numbers in plans with high deductibles, or when they are using their own HSA funds. We popped in a local zip code and service (spine MRI) and found a range of services and fees in less than a second. Check it out.
