Do Your Employees Understand How to Access & Use Their Benefits?
You’re paying for benefits for your employees. Your corporate “mission” to provide good medical coverage and care is top-notch. And, yet, for some reason(s) your employees just aren’t using the benefits to their max. They are confused over how their benefits work and may not use them to the fullest extent (and, therefore, don’t derive the best outcome from them) because they just “give up.” How do you combat that?
The National Business Group on Health in conjunction with representatives of 20 of the nation’s major employers have teamed up to form the “Leadership Forum on Employee Experience.” Their goals, as stated in the press release in mid-July, are “. . . identify strategies for employers to personalize, simplify and communicate information about their health benefits and well-being programs and deliver it in ways that employees want and appreciate.” The 2018 Consumer Mindset Survey (conducted by Alight Solutions) in association with the NBGH showed that “only 53% of individuals can understand and manage how they get health care services” and even fewer have figured out how to pay for those same services.
We believe the use of an onsite clinic goes a long way toward resolving those problems. But, if employees don’t trust it, don’t know about the full scope of services the clinic offers and how to access them, or just aren’t “engaged,” the work of this group should help all employers to improve the use of those benefits you are already providing and paying for – to the fullest extent possible. The outcome? When employees are engaged, costs go down and overall health improves.
