Double A? A+? Amazon and Apple in the On-site News. Where will they go?

According to recent reports, Amazon is considering an on-site clinic for its employees at their headquarters in Seattle (that is not HQ2 – but if this works, surely that will follow, as well as warehousing sites).  Amazon has managed to entirely restructure retail sales – what is the potential that an on-site clinic could start (or for us, continue would be a better word) the disruption in healthcare created when non-healthcare businesses get into the “business” of healthcare?  In the article we read, Rita Numerof of Numerof and Associates was quoted as saying, “They wouldn’t be doing this if they didn’t think there was a business opportunity.”  However, she continued in the interview to express concerns as to whether Apple is really ready to take this step into an arena where they have formerly never operated.  But, from our vantage point, that is exactly what other players, big and small, have done and done very well.   Even the article indicates that the potential exists for Amazon to do this so well on their own that they become a provider of on-site clinic services to other employers in the near future!

Double A – Well, that second “A” is for Apple (yes, we’re being cute here),  which is (again, like Amazon) hiring its own staff (through its wholly-owned subsidiary AC Wellness, a company so new that the website isn’t close to complete yet – hard to believe for this tech giant) to operate wellness clinics for its employees.  Focusing on improving the patient experience (a core goal in on-site care), Apple is advertising for staff who believe in that principle.  Again, another potential competitor in the future in the on-site clinic management arena.

These corporations are so large, such innovators, that they could really shake up the industry.  It will be interesting to see where they go.
